Birkenstock Sizing

One of the best things about Birkenstocks is that they offer a variety of sizes to accommodate different foot shapes. And because they’re made with high-quality materials, they tend to run true to size. That said, it’s always a good idea to measure your foot before ordering to make sure you get the perfect fit.

Find your foot length

To find your foot length, trace around your foot onto a piece of paper and then measure the distance between the two longest points with a ruler. Once you have your foot length, refer to the chart below to find your Birkenstock size.

If you are in between sizes, Birkenstock recommends that you choose the larger size.

To find the perfect fit for your Birkenstocks, all you need is a tape measure and a hard, flat surface. Once you have those things, follow these steps:

1. Stand on the hard, flat surface with your heel against the wall and your longest toe pointing forward.
2. Place the tip of the tape measure at the end of your longest toe and extend it to the back of your heel. Make sure to keep the tape measure perpendicular to the floor the entire time.
3. Take note of the measurement in centimeters or inches and compare it to our size chart below to find your Birkenstock size.

If you are between sizes, we recommend that you order the larger size because Birkenstocks will molded to the shape of your foot over time.

Birkenstock Widths

The width of your Birkenstock sandals or clogs is just as important as the length. After all, you don’t want your shoes to be too loose or too tight. If you’re not sure which width is right for you, take a look at the chart below.

Narrow

The Narrow width is indicated with a “N” on the shoe’s size tag. This width is best for people with slim feet, and it’s the most popular Birkenstock width. If you are shopping for Birkenstocks for someone else, a good rule of thumb is that most women will need a narrow or regular width, while most men will need a regular or wide width.

Regular

Birkenstocks come in four main widths. Narrow, Regular, Wide, and Dual Width. The Dual Width is new for Birkenstock and is two sizes in one sandal. The Birkenstock Regular width is their most popular width accounting for 50% of all sales. If you have never purchased a pair of Birkenstocks before, or have always worn a size 10 shoe, then we recommend starting with a Regular width in Birkenstock.

Wide

If your foot measures over 3-7/16 inches or 87mm at its widest point, you will need a wide width in order to achieve the proper fit in your Birkenstocks. This accounts for approximately 5% of the population. If you have problem areas on your feet such as bunions, Morton’s neuroma, hammertoes or just really swelling, a wide width may be a better option for you even if your foot isn’t technically “wide.”

Find your size

To find your Birkenstock size, start by tracing your foot onto a piece of paper. Make sure to trace around the entire foot, including the toes and heel. Once you have traced your foot, use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the length and width of your foot tracing.

Once you have the measurements of your foot, refer to the Birkenstock size chart below to find your Birkenstock size. If your foot falls between two sizes on the chart, we recommend trying the larger size first.
