Soprano

The soprano ukulele is the smallest and most traditional ukulele. If you’re looking for the classic ukulele sound, this is the size for you. Soprano ukuleles are also the easiest size for children to learn on. If you’re just starting out, we recommend a soprano ukulele.

Pros

There are many reasons why you might want to choose a soprano ukulele. Sopranos are the smallest and most traditional type of ukulele, so they’re perfect if you’re looking for an authentic experience. They’re also very portable, so they’re great for taking on the go. And, because they’re small, they’re often less expensive than other types of ukuleles.

If you’re a beginner, a soprano ukulele may be a good choice for you because it’s easy to hold and play. And, if you’re looking for a challenge, some people find that sopranos are more difficult to play than larger ukuleles because the strings are closer together.

Cons

Size – Sopranos are the smallest and lightest ukuleles. They’re very portable, which is great for taking with you on the go, but their small size also means they can be a bit more difficult to play. If you have large hands or long fingers, you may find it challenging to reach all the chords and strumming patterns.

Sound – Sopranos produce a very soft and delicate sound. If you’re looking for a uke that’s going to have a lot of projection and volume, you’ll probably want to go with a bigger size.

Cost – Sopranos are generally the most affordable ukuleles on the market. If you’re on a tight budget, this is definitely the size for you.

Concert

If you’re looking for a ukulele that has a louder, fuller sound, then you might want to consider a concert ukulele. Concert ukuleles are slightly larger than soprano ukuleles, and they have a longer scale length. This gives them a richer, fuller sound that is perfect for playing with other instruments or in a group.

Pros

There are several things to consider when purchasing a ukulele, but one of the most important is size. The size of the uke will affect both the sound and the playability, so it’s important to choose carefully.

People often choose a smaller uke because they think it will be easier to play, but this isn’t always the case. Smaller ukes can be more difficult to hold and may be less comfortable for people with larger hands. They also tend to have a higher string tension, which can make them more difficult to press down.

However, smaller ukes do have some advantages. They tend to be lighter and more portable, making them great for travel. They also have a brighter sound that some people prefer.

If you’re unsure which size to choose, it’s best to try out a few different options before you make your purchase.

Cons

-You might not be able to get the sound you want from a smaller ukulele.
-They can be harder to hold and play for extended periods of time.
– Smaller ukuleles can be more expensive than their larger counterparts.

Tenor

The tenor is the most popular size of ukulele. It is comfortable to hold and has a rich, full sound. If you are a beginner, the tenor is a great size to start with. If you are looking for a ukulele to play with other instruments, the tenor is also a good choice.

Pros

The tenor ukulele is the second largest member of the ukulele family, trailing only the baritone uke in size. A standard tenor ukulele is usually around 26 inches long, with a scale length (distance from nut to saddle) of around 17 inches. That’s about 7/8ths the size of a full-size guitar.

Tenor ukes usually have four strings, tuned in reentrant fashion to GCEA – the same as a standard soprano or concert uke. However, because of their larger size, many tenor ukes can also be strung with low-G (linear) string sets, creating a deeper, fuller sound more reminiscent of a small guitar.

As with any other instruments, there are both advantages and disadvantages to playing the tenor ukulele. Here are some things to consider if you’re trying to decide if this is the right size for you:

Pros:
-The extra length of the tenor’s scale gives it a richer, more complex sound that some players prefer.
-Low-G string sets are an option on most tenors, which can create a deeper sound ideal for certain styles of music.
-Having a few extra inches of body can make the tenor more comfortable to play for some people – especially those with larger hands or long fingers.

Cons

There are a few drawbacks to consider before buying a tenor uke. First, they are among the more expensive ukuleles, so if you’re on a budget, you might want to consider a smaller size. Second, because of their size, they can be a bit unwieldy for younger players or those with small hands. Finally, tenor ukes tend to have less snap and projection than their smaller counterparts, so if you’re looking for a uke that really packs a punch, you might want to consider something else.

Baritone

Baritone ukuleles are the largest size of ukulele. They are tuned to the same pitch as a guitar, which makes them a great choice for guitarists who want to try the ukulele. Baritones are also a good choice for people with larger hands, as they have a larger fretboard.

Pros

The baritone ukulele is the largest and lowest sounding member of the ukulele family. Its big voice has been variously described as “mellow,” “rich,” and “oothy.” It is less jangly than the smaller ukes, and many folks find the sound more mellow and “bluesy.” For those who primarily strum chords rather than fingerpick, the baritone can provide a nice alternative to the standard guitar. You can even buy baritone ukuleles with electric pickups for amplified play.

Cons

The biggest problem with playing a baritone ukulele is that the range of the instrument doesn’t always line up with the range of human voices. In other words, if you want to sing along with your playing, a baritone ukulele might not be the best choice. The lowest note on a standard baritone ukulele is an E, which is lower than most people can comfortably sing. If you have a low singing voice or if you plan on playing mostly instrumental pieces, then a baritone ukulele might be a good choice for you. But if you want to be able to sing along with your playing, you might want to consider a different size ukulele.
