Introduction
A2 cards are 4 1/4 inches x 5 1/2 inches. This size is also sometimes called A2 or fourbar. A2 cards fit in A7 envelopes.
Standard Paper Sizes
A2 paper size is part of the ISO 216 standard. Other sizes in this series include A3, A4, A5, and A6. The most common paper size used in the United States is letter size, which is part of the ANSI/ASME Y14.1 standard. The ISO standard paper sizes are used in almost every country in the world except for the United States and Canada.
North American Paper Sizes
Annoyingly, the US and Canada have stuck to the traditional English system of paper sizes (and actually added an extra size to the mix), but that makes life quite difficult for those of us who need to order in a wider variety of sizes from international sources.
The British Standards Institute (BSI) has defined a few additional paper sizes, but these are not widely used in North America. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has also defined a few sizes, but again, these are not in common use. So what does that leave us with?
The most common paper size used in North America is Letter paper (8.5 x 11 inches). The other common sizes are Legal paper (8.5 x 14 inches) and Tabloid paper (11 x 17 inches).
There are a few other sizes that you might come across from time to time, such as Ledger/Tabloid Extra paper (11.69 x 16.54 inches) and Super B/A3 paper (13 x 19 inches), but these are much less common.
International Paper Sizes
The international paper size standard is ISO 216. It is based on the German DIN 476 standard from 1922. The sizes in this series are determined by avoiding the use of side proportions other than 1:2 and a width to length aspect ratio of 1:√2 (i.e. the square root of two). This aspect ratio gives the paper a unique advantage for folding, which no other size shares.
The most frequently used member of this series is the A4 size, which has an area of 1m2 and is used for letterheads, envelopes, documents, etc. The dimensions of A4 paper are 210mm x 297mm (8.27in x 11.69in).
A0 is the largest size in the series and has an area of 1m2. The dimensions of A0 paper are 841mm x 1189mm (33.11in x 46.81in).
The sizes in between are defined by halving or doubling the dimensions of the preceding sheet in the series. For example, halving an A4 sheet in half produces two A5 sheets each with an area of 0.5m2, and halving an A0 sheet in half produces two A1 sheets each with an area of 0.5m2.
Card Sizes
A2 card size is 4.25″ x 5.5″. A2 cards are the second most popular size for greeting cards, after A6. They are half the size of an A1 card, which is the largest standard card size. A2 cards are also the same size as half an A4 sheet of paper, so they are easy to print at home.
North American Card Sizes
The standard greeting card size is A2, which is 4.25 inches wide by 5.5 inches tall. However, there are other sizes that are also common, such as A6 (4.5 inches by 6.25 inches) and A7 (5 inches by 7 inches).
In addition to the standard sizes, there are also mini cards, which are typically 3.5 inches by 4.875 inches, and large cards, which can be up to 7 inches wide by 10 inches tall.
International Card Sizes
Many people don’t know that there are international standards for card sizes. The ISO, or International Organization for Standardization, has established a series of standards for paper and card sizes. The most common standard is the A series.
The A series consists of 8 formats, shown in the table below. The dimensions of the A4 format is 210 mm × 297 mm, and it is by far the most commonly used size. Not only is it used for letterheads, envelopes, and other stationery items, but it is also the standard size for many office machines such as photocopiers and laser printers.
The B series is also an ISO standard, and it is used mainly for posters, banners, and large-format signs. The dimensions of the B4 format are 250 mm × 353 mm.
There are also a few other formats that are used less frequently, such as the C series (for envelopes) and the SRA series (for cutting sheets of paper).
Conclusion
After researching the various dimensions of A2 cards, we can confidently say that the average size of an A2 card is 4.25″ x 5.5″.
