Lay the T-shirt flat on a cutting surface.

Cutting an oversized T-shirt into a more flattering shape is a quick and easy way to update your wardrobe. You can turn an old, baggy T-shirt into a stylish crop top or a comfy tank top. With a few simple cuts, you can transform an oversized T-shirt into a trendy piece of clothing that you’ll actually want to wear.

Here’s how to cut an oversized T-shirt:

1. Lay the T-shirt flat on a cutting surface.
2. Use scissors to cut off the bottom hem of the T-shirt.
3. Cut along the side seams of the T-shirt, from the bottom hem to the armpit.
4. Try on the T-shirt to see how it fits. If it’s too big, continue cutting along the side seams until it’s the right size.
5. Cut off the sleeves of the T-shirt if you want to make a tank top or sleeveless shirt.
6. If you want to make a crop top, cut off the bottom hem of the shirt and then cut along the side seams from the bottom hem to where you want the crop top to end (usually just below the bust).

Use a fabric marker to draw a line straight down the center of the T-shirt, from the top of the shoulder to the bottom hem.

Place the T-shirt on a flat surface. Use a fabric marker to draw a line straight down the center of the T-shirt, from the top of the shoulder to the bottom hem. This will be your cutting line.

Fold the T-shirt in half so that the front and back are lined up, with the cutting line running down the middle. Use scissors to cut along the cutting line, starting at the top of the shoulder and stopping at the bottom hem.

Open up the T-shirt so that it is flat again. You should now have two identical halves of the T-shirt. Try on both halves of the T-shirt to determine which one fits better. If one side is too big and one is too small, you may need to make additional adjustments.

Cut along the line you just drew with a sharp pair of scissors.

Now that you have your line drawn, it’s time to cut! Get a sharp pair of scissors and cut along the line you just drew. If you want, you can cut a bit inside of the line – this will make the neck hole a bit smaller and less likely to stretch out.

Once you’ve cut all the way around the neck hole, try the shirt on to make sure it fits how you want it to. If it’s too big, you can always cut off more; if it’s too small, you can try stretching it out a bit or cutting a tiny bit more off.

Try on the T-shirt to check the fit.

If the T-shirt is too large, it might be swimming on you or hanging off your body in an unflattering way. An oversized T-shirt can also make you look heavier than you are. If the T-shirt is too small, it will be uncomfortable to wear and might stretch out of shape.

The best way to check the fit of a T-shirt is to try it on. If you don’t have the opportunity to try on the T-shirt, hold it up to your body to get an idea of how it will look.

Once you’ve determined that the T-shirt is too large, you can begin the process of cutting it down to size.

Trim off any excess fabric if necessary.

If your T-shirt is more than a few inches too big in the waist or hips, you may want to trim off some of the excess fabric before you proceed. Use sharp scissors to cut along the sides of the shirt, tapering in toward the armpits so that the sides are narrower at the top. You can also cut along the bottom edge of the shirt to shorten it, if desired.

Enjoy your new, perfectly fitting T-shirt!

You did it! You cut your oversized T-shirt into the perfect fitted T-shirt. Here’s how you did it:

First, you cut off the bottom hem of the T-shirt. Then, you cut off the sleeves of the T-shirt. Next, you cut a horizontal line across the chest of the T-shirt, about 4 inches below the neckline. Finally, you cut vertical lines up the sides of the T-shirt, about 2 inches from the side seams.
