Standard License Plate Sizes in the U.S.
All states in the U.S. issue license plates to drivers. The design of the license plate varies from state to state, but all plates have certain standard sizing requirements.
The United States doesn’t have a standardized system for sizing license plates, so the dimensions can vary slightly from state to state. However, there are some general trends that you can use as a guide when you’re looking for a new license plate for your car.
In general, license plates in the United States are between 12 inches and 24 inches wide, and 6 inches and 12 inches tall. The most popular size for license plates is 6 inches by 12 inches, but some states useplates that are 4 inches by 7 inches or 8.5 inches by 11 inches.
Some states also offer speciality plates that are a different size than the standard plate. These plates are usually offered as an option for an additional fee, and they often support a specific cause or organization. For example, Texas offers a Native American plate that is 8.5 inches by 11 inches, and Louisiana offers a Cajun plate that is 4 inches by 7 inches.
If you’re looking for a new license plate for your car, be sure to check the sizing requirements for your state before you purchase one. You can usually find this information on your state’s DMV website
How to measure your car for a license plate
There are a few things you need to take into account when measuring your car for a license plate. You need to account for the size of the plate itself, as well as the surrounding border or frame. We’ve put together a quick guide on how to measure your car for a license plate, so you can be sure you’re getting the right size plate for your vehicle.
First, you need to measure the width of your car. To do this, simply measure from one side of the car to the other, at the widest point. This should give you the width of your car in inches or centimeters.
Next, you need to measure the height of your car. To do this, measure from the top of the windshield down to the ground. Again, make sure you measure at the widest point of your car. This will give you the height of your car in inches or centimeters.
Now that you have both measurements, you can compare them to standard license plate sizes. In general, license plates are either 6 inches by 12 inches (15 cm by 30 cm), or 7 inches by 14 inches (18 cm by 36 cm). However, some states have slightly larger or smaller plates. For example, Alaska has plates that are 6 inches by 12 inches (15 cm by 30 cm), while Arizona has plates that are 6 inches by 14 inches (15 cm by 36 cm).
If you’re still not sure what size plate you need, or if your state has special requirements, we suggest checking with your local DMV office. They will be able to tell you what size license plate is required for your vehicle.
Custom License Plate Sizes
When you order a license plate, you must choose a size. The standard size license plate is 6 inches by 12 inches.
You may also choose a custom size license plate. Custom sizes for license plates range from 4 inches by 7 inches to 6 inches by 24 inches.
